“Mom! Stop!”
“School sucks.”
“What happened?”
“Mrs. Peterson asked me a question when I didn’t even have my hand raised. I had no idea what the answer was and everyone was just staring at me.”
“Oh no.”
“She just stood there waiting for me to answer. It was so embarrassing.”
“Did you talk to her after class?”
“No.”
“You should go in before class tomorrow and talk to her.”
“I’m not doing that.”
“Then email her.”
“Mom, no.”
“Why not?”
“Mom! Stop!”
Maybe it’s not a teacher.
Maybe your son studied for a test and still got a D.
“Did you ask if you could redo it?”
Or your daughter tells you her friends barely talked to her at lunch.
“Did you ask them what was wrong?”
Your mind races and you find yourself saying,
“Maybe you should just...”
“What if you...”
“Why don’t you...”
And now they’re super annoyed with you.
Why are you getting mad at me?
I was just trying to help.
Of course you were.
